ESTROMA

Anastrozole is a prescription aromatase inhibitor used to treat or prevent hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women by lowering estrogen levels. It is a daily oral tablet that works by blocking the enzyme that creates estrogen, thus limiting tumor growth.

Composition: Each film-coated tablet contains Anastrozole 1 mg
Pharmacological Category: Non-steroidal Aromatase Inhibitor

Lactation: Not recommended

INDICATIONS :
  • Hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer (postmenopausal women)
  • Advanced or metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women
  • Adjuvant treatment after surgery/radiation
  • Prevention of breast cancer recurrence
MECHANISM OF ACTION::

Anastrozole
↓
Inhibits Aromatase enzyme
↓
↓ Conversion of androgens → estrogen
↓
↓ Estrogen levels in circulation
↓
↓ Estrogen receptor activation
↓
↓ Tumor cell proliferation
↓
Tumor regression / Delayed progression

PHARMACOKINETICS:

Absorption: Rapid and well absorbed orally
Bioavailability: High
Onset of Action: Within days (clinical effect over weeks)
Metabolism: Hepatic
Excretion: Urine

DOSAGE INFORMATION:

Adults: 1 mg once daily

Note: Long-term therapy (usually 5 years) under oncologist supervision

SIDE EFFECTS:
  • Hot flashes
  • Arthralgia (joint pain)
  • Osteoporosis / bone loss
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Increased cholesterol levels
PRECAUTIONS:

Use with caution in patients with:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Hepatic impairment

Monitoring:

  • Bone mineral density
  • Lipid profile
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
  • Pregnancy (Category X)
  • Premenopausal women (unless specifically indicated)
  • Hypersensitivity to Anastrozole
